In a landmark gathering for peace and reconciliation, the Organization for Sustainable Development in Africa (OSDA), supported by the FCDO/Deris Wanaag initiative, proudly facilitated a vital inter-community peace dialogue between the Garre and Degodia communities in Banisa, Mandera County. This significant event was led by H.E. Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif, whose unwavering commitment to peace played a central role in guiding the dialogue and fostering mutual understanding.
The peace dialogue brought together local leaders, elders, and community members, all united by a shared goal: to build sustainable peace and strengthen social bonds across the communities. A range of resolutions was agreed upon, focusing on immediate and long-term strategies for maintaining harmony.

The following are the key outcomes from the dialogue:
1️⃣ Ceasing Hostilities and Embracing Peace: Both communities agreed to end hostilities, signaling a commitment to peaceful coexistence and shared responsibility for maintaining harmony.
2️⃣ Collaborating with Ethiopian Leadership on Cross-Border Issues: Recognizing the interconnected nature of cross-border relations, the participants resolved to work closely with Ethiopian authorities to address issues affecting peace along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
3️⃣ Promoting Personal Responsibility for Peace Through Chiefs and Elders: Chiefs and community elders are essential peace ambassadors within their communities. The dialogue emphasized the role of these leaders in advocating for peace and guiding community members to uphold peaceful practices.
4️⃣ Ensuring Safe Movement of People and Livestock: A critical element for economic stability and daily life, freedom of movement was prioritized. Both communities committed to guaranteeing the safe passage of people and livestock, enabling trade and interaction across regions.
5️⃣ Using Dialogue and Mediation to Resolve Conflicts: In place of violent responses, both communities pledged to use dialogue and mediation to handle disputes. This agreement underscores a commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and is a powerful example of community-driven peacemaking.
6️⃣ Supporting the Return of Displaced People: The safe and dignified return of displaced persons to their homes is essential for restoring community trust and rebuilding lives. Leaders expressed their commitment to supporting displaced individuals as they reintegrate into their communities.
